Jim Devine Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Monday, May 1, 2017

After 26 years of working at CDMA, Jim Devine, former CDMA President, has retired. On February 15, 2017, the editors at Chain Drug Review presented the publication’s Lifetime Achievement Award to Devine for his impact and influence on the industry over the course of his career.

During his time at CDMA, Devine initiated many changes from relocating the business to broadening its membership and moving beyond the drug channel. CDMA expanded the categories it distributes to offer more general merchandise, expanded their distribution center, and added new lines such as Quality Choice, Awaken and Nirmala Naturals. CDMA has also adapted to the rapid changes in technology by utilizing social media and online capabilities such as initiating a website presence and furthering marketing efforts by integrating email marketing. CDMA has achieved these and many other accomplishments under Jim Devine’s tenure as President.

Devine’s leadership, in the view of many industry leaders, is the major reason CDMA has survived. Lynne Fruth from Fruth Pharmacy acknowledged, “Jim Devine took nothing and made it into something. Everything that we enjoy as members of CDMA and as customers is due in large part to the contributions that he’s made.”

Devine has remained committed to CDMA for longer than most industry leaders can remember, attending every trade show, developing new endeavors, remaining committed to members and consistently voicing his support of the association. “Jim has always been wildly supportive. Never being a big operation with only three stores, it’s nice having someone like Jim who treated you as if you were the only person,” expressed Mitch Mallone from Vanco Pharmacy. Recognizing Jim Devine’s commitment to CDMA, Lanny Doud from QualityCare Pharmacies, stated, “I appreciate Jim’s devotion to CDMA. I’ve never seen anyone put as much time and effort into the company as Jim has.”

Looking back at his time at CDMA, Devine says what he has enjoyed the most is all the “great people” he has worked with over the years. From having a very supportive board of directors to a great staff and the support of his wife, Devine is very appreciative of his time at CDMA. “I’m going to miss all the action,” Devine said. However, “my 15 grandchildren will keep me busy during my retirement,” he added.

The CDMA staff, Board of Directors, Executive Committee, business members and industry leaders would like to sincerely thank Jim Devine for his impactful career in the chain drug industry and for growing CDMA into what it is today.
