GMDC – Health, Beauty & Wellness Trends

The GMDC-HBW (Health, Beauty, & Wellness) Conference was held at the JW Marriott in Phoenix, Arizona this past September. Like every year, attending this hallmark show allowed for CDMA to see products brand new to the market, products with long standing traction with new marketing initiatives, and everything in between. Regardless of each company’s placement in the market, all the suppliers we met with played an informative role in helping us pass along valuable product information for your HBW categories!

Vital information communicated by the top leader Johnson and Johnson; is that there will be no advertising dollars or FSI schedules surrounding the Tylenol brand for the duration of 2012, due to J&J’s well known regulation issues.

Because of this, it will be important for you to ensure that your pain relief shelf does not show a void within this category. It is a great opportunity to make sure that Quality Choice or another store brand (gasp!) is well stocked among your other pain relief products.

Natural ingredients are a key trend among health, beauty, and wellness. This trend has risen dramatically over the past 3 years. Everything from shampoo, to makeup, to skincare, to make up removal cloths, to baby wipes is what we saw with the “natural” seal of approval. Natural ingredients in products are what the consumer wants to experience. A current CDMA member, John O’Maley and Associates, launched Water Wipes. This is an all natural baby wipe product that caters and speaks to the mom who wants to make sure no chemicals are touching her new born baby!

A new beauty supplier to join CDMA is Nicka K., who offers Crackle nail polish, one of the hottest trends in nail beauty! The “cracked” look in polish form is a hit for all age groups and speaks to many kinds consumers in the beauty aisle. We are glad to present Nicka K’s offerings to you, including crackle nail polish.

Overall, GMDC-HBW was a success in connecting with mainstream national brand suppliers and new suppliers with exciting new products!

ECRM-Skin, Hair, Ethnic, Cosmetic & Fragrance Recap

The ECRM Skin, Hair, Ethnic, Cosmetics & Fragrance show was held in Miami, Florida, July 11th through 15th, at the Intercontinental Hotel. Products within these categories included ever popular anti-aging skin lines, dry shampoo, new “sticker based” nail color application, and makeup brush programs.

A current CDMA Associate Member, Auraline Beauty, exhibited at the show with their extensive “starlet” cosmetic product range, including eye kits, lip kits, brow kits, and makeup brush sets. Their many programs attract all kinds of customers and offer a great niche based way to add flavor to national brand cosmetics, already in your stores.

The buzz seems to be around dry shampoo within the hair category this year! This is a concept very prevalent in Europe, and now being brought to the U.S. for more growth and exposure. The concept is to use the aerosol spray on dry hair in between washes, as a hair refresher after the gym/work, before special events, etc. This is a personal CDMA favorite!

Having professional hair care available in pharmacy is also a prevalent trend! Many suppliers who used to only promote and sell to hair salons specifically, have branched out to mass retail to make their exclusive products available almost anywhere.

Primary One is just one of a few suppliers at this show that offers complete planograms and open stock options for professional hair care programs with great margins to match!

Awards given at the show included; Best New Product presented to Continental Consumer Products for Salon Grafix Curl Boosting Spray within the Skin/Hair categories. Best New Product presented to Nail Rock for their “sticker based” nail color application within the Cosmetic/Fragrance categories.

ECRM – Cough, Cold & Allergy Recap

The ECRM Cough, Cold, and Allergy show was held in Orlando, Florida February 27th through March 3rd at the Omni Resort at Champions Gate. Products within the health category included cough and cold, allergy, vaporizers, humidifiers, digestive, and sleep relief.

Purell made headway in launching their new patented travel anti-bacterial hand sanitizer. A small bottle with a jelly encasement cover and loop hook that can be attached to anything for easy convenience, was seen everywhere you looked!

A partnership that developed from meeting at the show was one between CDMA and Similasan Corporation. They offer a “kid friendly” 100% natural line of products including Cough Relief Syrup, Cold and Mucus Relief, and Nasal Allergy.

Nasal care and irrigation kits are a still a large trend in this category. The consumer has many variations and price points to choose from in nasal relief. A couple versions and price variations of this product is a must have for your shelf!

Awards presented at the show included, Best New Product which went to Cobalis for PreHistin. Most prepared supplier was Purell Consumer (GOJO Industries, Inc), and Best Room Setup was awarded to the Emerson Group.

Overall, this was a terrific show where CDMA will be able to bring you product opportunities and relationships to best suit your Cough, Cold, and Allergy needs for your shelf!

Return Solutions

Return Solutions is a full-service pharmaceutical reverse distributor offering an industry-first program that gives you the opportunity to choose your own rate and reimbursement schedule.  We have been in business for eighteen years, and we specialize in independent pharmacies and small- to medium-sized chains.  With endorsements from over 25 buying groups across the country, we are by far the most recommended company in the industry.  Return Solutions is thrilled to partner with CDMA and excited to begin connecting with its members!  We strive to offer the very best service in the industry and are excited to have the opportunity to form mutually beneficial, long-lasting relationships. With our new OneCheck Select program, you can choose to receive your credit in as little as 30 days, or choose from our 60 or 90 day options. Credit comes directly to you in the form of a single check, so there is no need to track credits from the wholesaler or manufacturer, and the amount you receive from each manufacturer is listed directly on the check stub.  Our fee is backed out of the checks so you never pay up-front, and you never pay for shipping or destruction. We offer the convenience and simplicity of our On-Site program or the freedom and economy of our Mail-In program. Our on-site service is completely comprehensive: our rep scans the shelves and pulls the outdated items, inventories them there, and arranges for FedEx to pick up the next business day. He leaves a complete inventory and estimate for the pharmacist to review.  With our mail-in service, a pharmacy staff member scans the shelves and inventories the outdated items either on our website or with forms that we provide.  Shipping labels can be printed online if you use the online inventory service or we can mail pre-paid shipping labels if you prefer. Within either 30, 60, or 90 days, depending on the time-frame you select, you receive a single check from Return Solutions that represents the majority of your credit.  The manufacturers that you have received credit from are listed on the check stub along with the dollar value of their credit. If there are any manufacturers that will issue credit directly to you, the amount you should receive from each is noted on the check stub as well.

Take advantage of this brand new partnership today!
